Meta Health Technology Announces Free Online ICD-10 Learning Tools
Free ICD-10 Tools Utilize GEMs and Give Healthcare Professionals a Head Start on New Coding System
New York, NY — Meta Health Technology has introduced two ICD-10 online learning tools, utilizing the General Equivalency Mappings (GEMs) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The new tools are designed to assist healthcare professionals in learning the ICD-10 code set that will go into effect October 1, 2013. The Meta Converter enables users to see how ICD-9 codes translate to ICD-10. They can see how to construct the new 7-character ICD-10 procedure codes with the Meta Procedure Builder, which walks them step-by-step through each section. The tools are available free of charge through the company's website, www.metahealth.com.
Valuable Help for a Major Industry Change
The new ICD-10 code structure will require healthcare professionals — including HIM, CDI, IT, clinicians, and billing and coding staff — to commit substantial time to learning the new code set and to understanding how to apply it. Given the magnitude of the change, industry experts agree that it would not be too soon for healthcare facilities to begin ICD-10 training efforts now. The Meta learning tools are intended to supplement the formal training programs provided by healthcare facilities and professional associations such as AHIMA.
