New York, NY — Meta Health Technology, a leading provider of software solutions for health information management, has introduced PowerRac, its new web-based software tool that enables hospitals to effectively manage the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) process and protect their legitimate revenue. The software automates RAC processes and activities across all departments, enabling hospitals to record requests, to track denials and appeals from Medicare and from any carrier, and to generate appeals for all levels of the appeals process. The workflow-driven product also includes powerful management reporting capabilities.
The RAC program was established in 2003 to identify improper Medicare payments to providers, including both underpayments and overpayments. Following the completion of a 3-year demonstration project in 3 states, the program has been rolled out to the rest of the country in 2009.
For providers, the financial stakes of the program are high: the demonstration project alone identified close to $1 billion in overpayments. Having the right software tool is critical in order for providers to track the volume of RAC information requests and deadlines, and to manage the confusing five-level appeal process.
According to Eli Nahmias, President and CEO of Meta Health Technology, “PowerRAC was developed in collaboration with HSI Advisors, a consulting firm that had in-depth experience with the 3-year RAC pilot program in New York. As a result, the product includes all the features required to manage RAC activities efficiently and to ensure that the hospital retains all its legitimate revenue. In addition, PowerRAC is integrated with our abstracting and release of information software products. This produces a seamless workflow for the hospital and significantly reduces the effort needed to manage the RAC program.”
